Our drive was beautiful. We saw beautiful country land and the snow and buildings were amazing.
A lot of Northern Japan is country and beautiful.
The Roads were covered in packed snow. The road speeds are only about 35miles an hour on the fastest road. So it wasn't as scary as it looks.
The farm land turned into hills of trees.
Then we began to see a river. It was so beautiful. There were huge rocks in the river with a few feet of snow on top of them. These were just a few pictures I could get from inside the car while driving. We could of pulled over, but we would block the traffic on the small roads, so we took pictures on the way.
As we started to get near the Gorge there became trees everywhere that surrounded us on all sides. I can't wait to see it in other seasons as well. It is so beautiful.
More of the trees. They were stunning in the ice and snow.
Here is a view looking up at them.

When we got to the festival there was a huge wall with lanterns inside. It was a beautiful entrance.
All the kids got thrown into the snow, the Japanese people thought it was hilarious and stood around laughing and laughing at Dave tossing them in.
All the kids got thrown into the snow, Here is court after a nice powdering landing.
Marissa tried pulling Dad, but it was pretty unsuccessful. It was fun to watch her try though.
This was the stage for the evening performances. They carved faces into the ice. It was huge and beautiful. They are so talented.
We even saw OLAF. They had beautiful ice sculptures.
Dave got into some deep snow. Up to his knees.
Dave is a nut. Doing flips. Another thing the Japanese Laughed and laughed at. They get a hoot out of us crazy Americans.
As it got dark the lights shined brighter and brighter. It was amazing and beautiful.
They had these lights. The way they glowed I think they are backlights. It was beautiful.
The kids had tons of fun sledding. Landon loved to fall, Courtney loved to go fast, and the twins couldn't stop giggling. They all had a great time.
After sledding down the hill we went over to find something to eat. We tried some chicken, which everyone loved. We also tried this bacon on a stick. The kids loved it. It was thick and this guy would use a blow torch to heat it up as well as the grill. We also tried a weird soup, don't know what kind of meat was in it (maybe we don't want to know) it felt like Gelatin. Weird. The kids liked most of what they ate, but we did start to get cold while we were waiting for food out in the snow.
I really don't know how I captured this picture. but I love it. I love her face and the lights all around her. It captures the feelings of the day. In awe and excitement for all that we saw.
Here is the tent we ate in, it was open so it was cold once we started sitting. All the indoor places were packed with people.
This is the Towada Festival character. It reminds me of a mushroom from super Mario brothers. He was really cute and we got a picture with all of us. YAY!
After dinner we headed over to watch the Taiko drummers. It was amazing.
These guys actually scared Courtney a little bit. They would come into the audience and stare people down and sneak up on them. It was awesome.
The drummers were so talented. It was also freezing outside and we had one that came out in sandals dancing in the snow. They had a little program which we understood non of, but it was fun to be in the Japanese crowed and see how they reacted to things.
The kids then got cold so I took them to the car and we watched the end of the night fireworks from there. It was an amazing night and beautiful.
They even had heart shaped fireworks for Valentines Day.
Happy Valentines to our family and to yours. It was a great day of love and laughter with the people we love.
